Cadillac announced the official launch of a large sedan model, based on the concept XTS Platinum. The new sedan will be the top of the range of the GM car manufacturer, and will be able to compete with big names in the segment, such as Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series.
Although Cadillac din not published a teaser of the new sedan, official sources say that the series model will have the same design lines as the XTS Platinum concept, presented last year. The official launch of the new Cadillac XTS will be in Los Angeles this fall or early next year, at the Detroit Motor Show.
In a statement issued by GM shows that "the future Cadillac XTS is designed to beat the famous luxury models. We propose a modern approach of the segment, combining the latest gadgets with exceptional dynamics, in a car that wants to be elegant and spacious. "
Cadillac XTS will be produced at the Oshawa factory in Ontario, Canada, where GM invested $ 117 million and hired 400 workers for the new model.

We have studied intensely the segment and the current competitors, and will develop the best product on the market. The public will be convinced of it very quickly. "

Even if it tried unsuccessfully to debut on the European premium segment cars, Cadillac is not giving up. The American car manufacturer will try for the third time in 15 years to re-enter the European market.

The new Cadillac model will be positioned above the current CTS, and will be a rival to the BMW 5 Series. The American range will include a smaller model, positioned below the CTS and potentially rival to the BMW 3 Series. With these models, Cadillac might try to shake the supremacy of the Germans on the premium model cars.

Exhibited in world premiere at the Los Angeles Motor Show the Cadillac Urban Luxury concept has sparked a wave of positive feedback and enthusiasm through the fans of the US car manufacturer.
The British designer responsible for the futuristic creation, Niki Smart, told the Autocar magazine that the prototype is the projection of a future Cadillac that will rival the Mini: “Cadillac has reached the point where it can develop such a model. We need as much coverage of the segments, especially on the European market. The success enjoyed by the Mini is proof that the public for the European continent is opened to new models”.
Renowned for its sedans, Cadillac has the chance to show the audience something else. The Smart brand relies on the fact that the U.S. car manufacturer does not have tradition in this segment, so there is no need for a conservative exterior design.
The Cadillac Urban Luxury concept is equipped with a hybrid drivetrain, which is located in the center of a three-cylinder engine, of 1.0 liters. The consumption announced by the manufacturer is 3 litres/100 km.

The Cadillac proposal for the design contest at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year is called Aera Concept, and wants to be a sports car with four seats, with a weigh not more than 454 kilograms.
Like the other concepts in this competition, Cadillac Aera will be equipped with a propulsion system based on compressed air, much lighter than the conventional alternatives engine. Named Pneumatic Drive System (PDS), the compression engine uses air pressure of 10,000 psi, the equivalent of 690 bars, being able to ensure a range of 1,600 kilometers.
The engine is mated to a four-wheel drive All-In-One (AIO), able to share similar resources to each wheel. The individual suspensions or V2V system will also be present and will provide a communication between the same type of cars. The wireless platform of the model will eliminate much of the electrical components that would occupy too much space.
The Aer Concept prototype is designed by the Centro Style design center and has been developed from a single component, able to provide a safety stable cell very similar to the proposal of NASA for the Mars Rover.
